Basic settings of the scanner profile includes:

selection of scanner resolution

selection of the color, gray scale or bi-tonal scanning

decission if automatic document feeder (ADF) will be used

single side or duplex scanning

selection of paper format and scanning area
The majority of business documents can be scanned bi-tonally at 150-200 dpi, although there are some exceptions. You can use higher resolution for the photos.
Paper format can be selected from the list of predefined formats. It is also possible to use custom format and set dimensions of the scanned area.
